The Chioma stream and the coastal paths

The Chioma reaches the sea in a narrow valley squeezed between two headlands, halfway between Castiglioncello and Quercianella. From the mouth, where there is an old bridge and a pebble beach, a path follows the stream upwards and then cuts into the maquis.

Spring is the right moment: the heather is in flower, the scrub is green and the mosquitoes have not arrived. Two hours make the loop back to the coast, with three or four points where the vegetation opens and the whole gulf appears.

Closed shoes, water and a hat: there is no shade on the last stretch, and in summer the path is only worth doing early in the morning.
