The Livorno hills from Nibbiaia

Nibbiaia sits at two hundred and fifty metres, on the ridge that separates the coast from the Fine valley. The paths of the Monti Livornesi park start from the village: chestnuts, cork oaks, strawberry trees, and in the clearings a view that takes in the whole shore from Livorno to Cecina, with Elba and Corsica on clear days.

This is the part of the area people forget, and those who live here do so for the cool summers and the wood on their doorstep. The sea is ten minutes away by car, and in winter the difference in temperature from the coast is noticeable.

The classic walk is the one towards Poggio Pelato, three and a half hours there and back, with a moderate climb and drinking fountains along the way.
